Walnut Tree Quarantine Expanded Due to Thousand Cankers Disease
- Plans underway to survey and restrict movement of walnut material in Tennessee -
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Agriculture today announced the discovery of a walnut tree killing disease, Thousand Cankers Disease (TCD), in Loudon and Sevier counties. The disease was discovered in Knox County in August 2010. These new counties are now under an emergency quarantine.
EMERALD ASH BORER DISCOVERED IN CLAIBORNE COUNTY
NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect that destroys ash trees, was recently found in Claiborne County. The find was made this month and has been confirmed by USDA.

Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival & Tour
ALGOOD, TN – Reservations are now being taken to view the new quilt squares on the expanded Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail in Overton County. Conducted in conjunction with the Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival, this all inclusive tour includes lunch and transportation along with insider visits with Barn & Quilt owners along the trail. It will be a photographer’s delight! The tour will start at 9:00 AM at the Trinity Assembly (Corner of West Wall Street & West Main Street) in Algood, TN. Signs will be posted. Tour will return around 3:30 - 4p.m.
New Director of Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance
Kathy Daugherty has been hired as director for the Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance. Kathy brings a lot of experience from her previous years of work as Hull-York Lakeland RC&D coordinator for the fourteen counties in the Upper Cumberland Council area. Under Kathy's leadership and direction, the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail project has expanded from the original sites to almost 300 sites with the six grants awarded under her project development.

Decherd, Tenn. – June 8, 2010 – The Mountain Goat Trail is getting a big boost from a new neighbor. LAR Development, the team behind Cedar Rock, a new community nestled just belowSewanee University of the South and St. Andrews School, plan to present the Mountain Goat Trail Alliance with a $10,000 donation. It’s all a part of a groundbreaking celebration set forSaturday, June 18th from 6 to 8pm at Cedar Rock.
National Scenic Byway Efforts Still Going Strong
Congratulations to the eight counties harboring the corridor of the North Cumberland Scenic Byway for meeting the quick deadline to express their support for the proposed North Cumberland National Scenic Byway.
Clay, Overton, Pickett, Fentress, Morgan, Scott, Campbell and Claiborne counties have each submitted a letter of support ensuring the eligibility of our application to the Federal Highways Administration to complete a corridor management plan. The Alliance for the Cumberlands Executive Director, Zebulon Turrentine said, “This is a great achievment for the region, and for the Alliance’s efforts to place the Cumberland Plateau in the national spotlight."
